So I have tried install using a USB flash drive. The BIOS is prepare to kick from 'removable device' but everytime I start upwards upwards information technology just goes and reloads XP!
Is there a way to go LL2.2 to install on this laptop by running information technology from within Windows or has anyone any idea how to overcome this issue?
thanks

Hullo breisleach,

I exercise non have experience of doing this myself, it is all-time to expect confirmation before attempting, as there may be newer, or more suitable methods.

Co-ordinate to this tutorial link from 2007
http://www.instantfundas.com/2007/08/install-any-linux-distro-directly-from.html

you lot can install a Linux Distro straight from the downloaded iso file in windows, eg; without burning it to a cd/dvd or using a USB wink bulldoze. This would overcome the event you are experiencing.

Edit: Subsequently installing Linux, in that location are some means to manage partitions, information technology may allow you to delete windows and utilise the full difficult drive for Linux Low-cal.

If CD drive is toast every bit you say and you have a floppy drive. I have also a floppy disk with a PLOP boot manager
that works just like the cd.

1. Floppy

A floppy disk image is a file that contains every sector of the floppy deejay. You cannot re-create the paradigm file on a floppy disk similar a common file. Information technology's required to utilise a special plan that writes sector per sector of the image file to the floppy disk sectors. There are many programs available to do this.

Download the current boot director plpbt-5.0.xiv.nada. Excerpt it to get the floppy disk prototype plpbt.img.

How to create the floppy:

DOS: You lot can utilise diskimg.com with diskimg -d a -w plpbt.img

Windows: Write the disk image with the program rawwritewin to the floppy disk

Linux: dd if=plpbt.img of=/dev/fd0

You tin can configure the plpbt.bin on the floppy with plpcfgbt.

And so I take tried install using a USB flash drive. The BIOS is fix to boot from 'removable device' but everytime I start upward up it just goes and reloads XP!

If you accept a floppy drive on in that location, go ahead and follow rokytnji's suggestion of Plop -- that will piece of work to permit you to kick the USB.  (Ofcourse, that would hateful you need to go your hands on a floppy -- which might not be like shooting fish in a barrel.)

Commonly computers have a key to striking to get into main BIOS settings where you make change to boot club and some other key to hit for a special "per session" kick menu.  Sounds similar you're using the main settings.  If you lot watch the writing that flashes by on the initial Mail screen during startup information technology should tell you what primal to hitting for the boot menu.  (EG. on some computers <F2> gets into primary settings and <F12> gets the separate boot menu.)  Make sure the USB is plugged into computer before you plow it on, otherwise it won't evidence in the boot card every bit a selection.  If you get to the boot menu and it doesn't testify a choice for the USB, then the BIOS doesn't support information technology and yous'll accept to effort one of the other suggestions people take listed.

Practise a friend accept a portable CD/DVD  bulldoze?  I never carp with computers w/ a bulldoze anymore.  I just have a portable bulldoze - useful for all 3 machines: desktop, laptop, and netbook.

I installed on a ACER Netbook using an 8GB USB stick too as an olde Compac Notebook. No CDROM drive on those netbooks, so USB was the simply way to go. Check within the BIOS for an extended menu. This happened with my Compac Presario V2000. I had to press ENTER to expand and then had an additional menu. I disabled CDROM, and Hard Bulldoze and left it only to REMOVABLE DEVICE. Moved it up to the meridian. Saved the setup and rebooted. Worked fine.
In terms of called-for the image to the stick, I used a gratis program in Windows on my Win8 setup. Win32DiskImager is the one that worked. I've heard Free ISO to USB as well is actually practiced.

Of form, your mileage may vary. Good Luck and I'll post more info when I tin can if need exist. ;D
